Let's Celebrate World Vegan Day!
Today is World Vegan Day! No matter who you are or what dietary lifestyle you follow, today is a day for celebrating health, compassion, and the environment. Let’s take a journey through the history of this day and how we can continue to keep it alive for generations to come!
What is World Vegan Day?
The first ever World Vegan Day was celebrated on November 1st, 1994 and has been celebrated on the day every year since. It was set in motion by the Vegan Society, a UK-based group founded by animal activist Donald Watson. In 1944, it was Donald himself who coined the term ‘vegan’, paving the way for vegans all over the globe.
What does it mean to be vegan?
Veganism could mean a hundred different things to a hundred different people. However, the core values of veganism stay firm. It’s about taking care of one’s health by consuming a well-balanced, nutritious diet. It’s about doing one’s part to help conserve the environment. It’s also about advocating for a cruelty-free lifestyle. And most importantly, it’s about compassion for oneself and the world we live in; it’s about sustainability, love, and care for our Earth.
How can you celebrate?
The first thing that comes to mind is definitely a delicious spread of vegan food. If you’re feeling fancy, check out our article on 4 Klang Valley Eateries with Vegan Options! Otherwise, we have our own repository of vegan recipes you can whip up at home.
If sustainability is more your thing, try planting a new vegetable. Whether it be tiny tomatoes, pumpkins, herbs, or leafy greens, it’s a fresh, healthy, organic, and vegan source of sustenance.
If you love animals, you could sign up to volunteer at your local animal shelter. It’s a wonderful way to help others who share the same sense of compassion, and of course, a great way to meet new furry friends!
And if you’re a film junkie, a vegan documentary is always on the table. Whether you’re watching alone or organizing a screening for your friends, it’s a perfect way to learn more about sustainable, vegan lifestyles and how you can do your part.
Spread the word!
World Vegan Day is a great occasion to share scrumptious recipes, homecooked meals, fun environmental facts, and vegan trivia. If you’re vegan, it’s also the perfect time to share your own story and journey into adopting a vegan lifestyle. You never know who you might inspire!
