4 Klang Valley Eateries To Go For Vegan Options

4 Klang Valley Eateries To Go For Vegan Options

As dine-ins are allowed again and we transition back into some sense of normalcy, it might be overwhelming to choose where we can go to enjoy a plant-based meal or drink that is both affordable and tasty. Let us introduce you to some exciting local eateries that are paving the way to make sustainable plant-based menus more accessible to the masses!

Starbucks Malaysia

Patrons at Starbucks Malaysia have long been familiar with customising their orders using the lineup of available plant-based milk alternatives - soy, almond, oat, coconut, and macademia milk. You can have classic drinks like the Vanilla Latte Frappuccino guilt-free by swapping dairy with coconut milk, for instance. This fall, Starbucks has taken it one step further by introducing the seasonal Positively Plant Based lineup with some stellar vegan handcrafted beverage options -  Oatmilk Cocoa Macchiato, and Almondmilk Pumpkin Spice Latte! These autumnal recipes pair Starbucks’s signature espresso blends with earthy flavours and toppings such as toasted oats, chocolate sauce, and pumpkin spice respectively, and are available as a hot, iced, or blended handcrafted beverage, topped with rice-based whipped cream. The Positively Plant-Based beverages will be available in all Starbucks Malaysia outlets for a limited period of time.

Foodbae

Foodbae Vegan Nasi Lemak

A hard thing about going vegan is that sometimes you miss the foods that you grew up with -- we know how you feel, too! That's why we would like to recommend you to head over to Foodbae in Desa Sri Hartamas to help you reconnect with the longing for comfort food and happier childhood days. Newly opened in mid-January 2021, Foodbae is already making waves in the local vegan community with their hearty vegan renditions, bringing you nostalgic local comforts like the Nasi Lemak, Vegan Lamb Briyani, Vegan Ayam Masak Lemak Chili, and Vegan Ayam Masak Kicap, with a healthy spin that you’re bound to remember. Most memorably, Foodbae does not use any mock gluten meat to create their vegan offerings. Vegans would also be delighted to know that Foodbae also serves up a mean vegan Cheese Burger, made using world-renowned Beyond Meat patties.

Sushi Kitchen

Priding itself as the first Japanese vegan sushi chain in Malaysia, Sushi Kitchen revolves its vegan recipes around the hearty fulfillment that fresh ingredients can offer. By curating a health-oriented menu with a vibrant palette, the boundaries of vegan dishes are continuously refined, as is evident when you order a plate of sushi like Global Warming Maki, Rainbow Makin or Tempura Handroll. Japanese comfort dishes with a vegan twist such as the Golden Miso Udon also does not disappoint with its zesty broth, topped with wakame seaweed, flaxseed and golden-crisped enoki mushroom tempura. Sushi Kitchen also includes a rotation of local recipes to satisfy vegan foodies with a hankering for savory wonders, most notably the laksa-inspired Happy Spicy Noodles, the hearty spicy broth made creamy and vegan using organic oat milk. Penangites living in Klang Valley will be happy to find a piece of home here when they order a glass of nutmeg juice to complement their meal.

The Hungry Tapir

Located in Petaling Street, Kuala Lumpur, The Hungry Tapir is a plant-based vegan and vegetarian-friendly restaurant set amidst lush potted plants juxtaposed against a groovy interior. The menu which ranges from local delights to Western mains helpfully includes labels to indicate if a dish is vegetarian or vegan. Now that movement restrictions are relaxed in the Klang Valley, this is the place to be for vegans and non-vegans alike; there is something for everyone in The Hungry Tapir with the exquisite variety of plant-based recipes complemented by a full-fledged cocktail bar. A perennial favourite with regulars is the signature Roti Canai, made vegan by throwing the flatbread with a blend of almond milk and coconut oil instead of ghee, served with sides of vegetarian dhal and tempeh sambal.
